When Lora and Skyler got in touch with me about their Marvel themed engagement shoot, we chatted about all the fun things we could do – I was really excited. We spent the morning hanging out in the historic area of the city, down near the Potomac River, which is perfect for photos at sunrise, because the light is so good and it has great backdrops – as well as Aftertime Comics on King Street! Lora and Skyler are huge comic book nerds and Aftertime is their favorite! The place is tiny, so capturing the photos required us to basically clear out the shop. The owner was super friendly, and in the end we got shots that the couple absolutely LOVE! We also had fun capturing some shots on the historic cobblestone streets of Old Town Alexandria, there ‘s one particular section of Prince Street that is a famous local photo spot. We got some amazing photos! We finished up with brunch at a funky eatery on King Street called Hen Quarter. Great chicken and waffles! We had a great time getting to know each other.
The weather was glorious, which was absolutely perfect for a photoshoot. The couple looked so in love throughout the shoot. They wore super awesome marvel themed t-shirts; Lora sporting the Eye of Agamoto (Dr. Strange), and Skyler’s shirt made it look like he had an arc reactor under his shirt! – it was PERFECT!
Lora and Skyler met at church and got engaged at the very spot on the pier where we captured a few of these beautiful portraits. They’re getting married next summer, and we can’t wait to shoot their wedding next summer!
